LIFE IS FOOD ~ FOOD IS LIFE
We've all heard the old saying, "You are what you eat." Well, we literally are. Here's why. From the ayurvedic perspective, it takes food 30 days to fully assimilate into your cells of your being.
A simple synopsis of how this works, looks like this.
Digestion starts in the mouth, then further gets broken down in our stomach, then into our small intestine and from there the waste goes into our large intestine for elimination. That is a super basic explanation of how it works.
What we don't realize is what happens after this. We assume, that when we poop it out, we are done. Not the case. After this initial digestion process, the nutrients from our food gets taken into the layers of our tissues. We have 7 layers of tissues that all need nutrients, from our first layer, which supplies fluids and nutrients to all the other layers, straight down to our bone marrow and finally our reproductive layer, which is the 7th layer.
So, what does this mean? It means that we need a really stable digestive system in order for nutrients to be properly assimilated through all 7 layers of our tissues. It also means what we put into this system, will have a direct result on how it gets digested, absorbed and assimilated.
Not only does it matter what we put into our bodies, but how we receive it is equally as important, if not more important. If we see our food as life, it becomes life within us. Everything on your plate had life if it's own, whether is a plant, an animal, a fruit or vegetable. It had a life and now it's purpose is to serve your life. If we treat food with this level of reverence and gratitude, it will change the way it is digested. If we understand the life cycle of our food, we can understand the value of the food giving us life.
It's a harmonious circle.
More food for thought ~ We also have to remember that everything we take in from all 5 senses is food.
What we take in through our eyes is food.
What we take in through our nose is food.
What we take in though touch is food.
What we take in through sound is food.
What we take in through taste is food.
All that we take in has to be digested. EVERYTHING!
The question is, "Are we in digestion overload?"
It's something to think about.
