March 12th Chatt-ty Tea
Hi Everyone, Thanks for attending our Chatt-ty Tea this month.
The topic was:
Preparing Your Body For The Spring Season From
The Ayurvedic Perspective.
According to Ayurveda, we are entering Kapha season. There are some important things to know, in order to ease the transition.
~ Rituacharaya (Seasonal Regimen) for Spring Transition ~
Hydrate! Start sipping warm water throughout the day in early to help stabilize the body and keep mucus from forming. We need to keep the body from drying out. It will also help regulate the
digestive system during this transitional period.
Focus on pungent, bitter and astringent foods.
Pungent: Ginger, onions, garlic, chilis, root vegetables
Bitter: Dark leafy greens, Turmeric, dandelion to help purify
Astringent: Lentils, cranberries
Things like broccoli, artichokes, and asparagus also help remove the heaviness from winter. Also, the light, bright tang of citrus is welcomed at this time.
During this time, eat light and warm. Also, eat smaller portions than your winter diet. Your body is in transition and will have difficulty digesting heavy foods.
Limit dairy during this time. It’s heavy and cold and it will increase the heaviness and dampness internally. Avoid having heavy, oily, and dense foods. Reduce foods that are excessively sweet, sour or salty.
Exercise can get tricky, depending on your constitution, but in general it’s time for all of us to start moving more. Everything starts to come out of hibernation, including us. We need to ease our way into moving more than we were used to during the cocooning months of winter. Align with the rhythm of nature.
Slowly start to adjust your internal clock to the sunrise and sunset. Winter usually slows us down a bit, but it’s time to shake off the winter blues. As the daylight increases, your activity should match this process…to a certain degree. Pay attention to activities that may be over-stimulating after 8pm. Transition the senses to adapt to the season.
Transition your mind. Moving into the spring season, is a slow shift back into ourselves. Winter is a very “in” season. Our awareness needs to move towards lightness, just as nature is slowly shifting out of darkness. We can still be outside enjoying the season, with awareness. There is a transition happening on the subtle level, within our consciousness. It’s an opportunity to stabilize the nervous system, realign with natures circadian rhythm, and experience incredible shifts. This is why solstices and equinoxes have been celebrated over time.
